First Motivational Lecture

As part of the events marking its second Annual General Meeting, The Francis DeGaulle Njie Foundation held for the first time a Motivational Lecture which was delivered by
Mr Abdourahman Touray, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pristine Consulting and trustee member of the Foundation; who lectured on the Topic “My Life as a Software Engineer “. “How and Why I became a Software Engineer”.
Mr Touray disclosed the purpose of which the lecture was meant to serve as follows;
- The Motivational lecture was organised in memory of the late Francis Degaulle Njie.
- To bring to the attention of students, the different career path
- It was also meant to serve as a mentor to the students
- To help create a new crop of engineers, scientist and other professions for nation building.
He commence by giving his biography i.e who he was, where he did his studies and his relation with the late Francis DeGaulle Njie.
He also gave a definition of what computer science is; he stated that computer science has its origin from mathematic and the first computer to be invented was a Mechanical Calculator. According to him it is hardly possible to see a computer making a mistake of 2+2 is equals to 5.
He gave the different areas of computer studies as follows;
- Computer Graphics
- Language programming e.g C++, Java etc
- Software engineering etc.
Mr Touray also gave a brief background of how one can become a software engineer; he stated that a strong knowledge of following is required:
- Mathematics
- Analytical Skills
- Background in computer science
He concludes by laying strong emphasis on the importance of hard work; he states that it is through hard work, that one can achieve a given aim. He advised students to take up their education seriously and devote their entire time and resources on their studies.
